Breastmilk Money is a pioneering financial product launched by Herconomy, Nigeria’s leading women-focused fintech, to empower Nigerian mothers through both health and financial autonomy. With only 34% of Nigerian mothers exclusively breastfeeding—often due to societal pressures and harmful superstitions—many turn to formula, spending over 30% of their household income on it. Breastmilk Money transforms the decision to breastfeed into direct savings by allowing mothers to earn interest on money they would otherwise spend on formula, supporting both their financial independence and maternal health. Developed with Serviceplan Innovation, the initiative debuted at the Herconomy Summit on March 28, 2025, just ahead of Nigerian Mother’s Day.
