Loveless Story
In 2023, an estimated 85,000 women and girls were intentionally murdered worldwide—an average of 232 deaths per day—according to the United Nations, underscoring the devastating reality of femicide, which most often occurs in domestic settings at the hands of partners or family members. To shed light on this crisis and provide a tool for identifying at-risk individuals, Universa, UOL’s female-focused platform, in collaboration with Instituto Gloria, has launched Loveless Story. Narrated by actress and activist Luana Piovani, the audio series follows the "femicide timeline" identified by British criminologist Jane Monckton Smith, whose 2019 study revealed eight common stages leading up to femicide. Through eight episodes, the fictional story of Eduardo and Julia illustrates a relationship that begins romantically but follows a tragic cycle of violence. Developed by Artplan, Brazil’s largest agency with 100% national capital, the initiative aims to raise awareness and offer critical insights into recognizing abusive relationships. As police delegate Natália Tenório notes, Loveless Story has the power to reach and educate women far beyond the scope of traditional state interventions, potentially saving lives.
