More Than a Wish
More Than a Wish is the second chapter of Make-A-Wish Canada's Wishes Are Medicine platform: a series of films told from inside the experience of wish alumni, showing how the anticipation of a wish can carry a child through treatment. The hero film follows Damien, who was 12 and being treated for an aggressive cancer when his wish to be a palaeontologist for a day came true at the Royal Ontario Museum. As he goes through scans, chemo days and long hospital nights, dinosaurs move through the wards around him, turning the hospital into a place where his wish gives him strength. More than a decade later, Damien is in full remission. Filmed on location at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, the series also tells the stories of Leena, who wished to meet a princess, Ruth, who wished to meet a unicorn, Nori, who wished to go to Comic-Con, and Cooper, who wished to meet his favourite wrestlers. The work runs on screen and in print, with an English hero film, a French version (Plus qu'un rêve) and short social cuts, all pointing Canadians to help fund wishes for every eligible child.
